Ithaca, Fall 2003

I started as a graduate student in Computer Science at Cornell Univeristy in August '03. Nancy has been wonderfully understanding about moving to Ithaca. She's teaching Honors Economics at Ithaca High School. We both love the town but wish it were about 500 miles further south, and maybe in the Rockies somewhere. The people here are great, but it's a little cold and cloudy, and we're a long way from our families.

Our House
We moved into a very cute little house on a quiet street in Ithaca, about a fifteen minute walk from Cornell. We're very happy to have a place of our own.

Part of owning a house is working on it. When we moved in, the tile in the shower was failing, so I tore it out and removed the damaged wallboard behind it. Nick helped me hang the new cement backerboard and pick designs for the new tile. A side benefit of the job was that I got to move the shower head up a foot (it used to be below clavical level). Now we have a fully-functional shower with shiny new tile.

Deer in our backyard
Although we live in the city, we still have deer that come through our backyard. They especially like our apple tree.
