Our campground was awesome, and deserted. The wildflowers were out in full force.

This is the view from our picknick table in our campsite.

This is Nancy, Sadie, and I in front of the lake. When we got there the evening before, we walked down to the lake, and Sadie saw killdeer for the first time. They flew low to the plants to attract her attention away from their nests. She bounded after through the grass/plants/flowers, oblivious to the rest of the world. Then, one of the birds turned out over the lake and Sadie bounded on after it. She'd never actually been to a lake or swimming before, and she was very surprised when the ground went away. Fortunately, with poodle and golden retriever blood, her swimming instincts are good, and after the initial expression of shock, she swam back to shore and then came bounding up to us in order to shake the water off and drench us, too.

It had rained a lot right before we got there and the dead wood had soaked up water and started steaming in the morning sun.

The clouds in the mountains are always entertaining.

Because of the recent heavy rains, much of the hike was boggy and muddy. Sadie thought it was great.

Sadie loves running around and bounding through tall plants. Even after a 7 mile hike at high altitude, she was running circles around us, excited to be outdoors.

This is Pagoda Peak, the peak we climbed. From this angle, you can see how it got its name.

This is me on top of Pagoda Peak with the Flattops in the background.

My favorite picture. This is Nancy and Sadie descending from the peak with a nice cloud behind them.

Some really nice clouds as we left the peak.

What can I say? I like clouds. These were pretty unreal. The picture was taken on the trip home, somewhere around Rifle.
