Our first hike this fall was up Crag's Crest on the Grand Mesa. We hiked along the ridge you can see on the left of the lake, adn then back around below where you can see here.

Sadie on the way up to the crest.

We also hiked up Oh-Be-Joyful Creek above Crested Butte to Democrat Basin.

I had never been to the arches at Rattlesnake Canyon, so we took a trip to check them out.

Sadie was skeptical about a scrambling section.

The arch we scrambled down through.

The arch we saw form above, as seen from below.

On our way back, the sun was setting, and we caugh this lovely view of Monument Canyon.

In late October, we took a hike down to Mee Canyon. Mee Canyon is fairly remote, back in a wilderness area, and the trail down to it is very tricky. We didn't see anyone else headed down there.

Here's one of the tricky secitons, with an 8 foot cliff, which was made easier by a ladder -- except that we had the dog with us. Getting her down was a challenge.

Mee Canyon is a beautiful, deep, and long canyon. The cottonwoods were turning yellow at the bottom.

There's a very deep alcove where the stream has undercut the canyon wall. However, we didn't make it to that alcove. This picture is of a closer alcove, which was still reasonably impressive.

On the way back up, Nancy was smiling about being here in Colorado and not back in Ithaca where it's been cold and raining or snowing all week.
