caseysmith.net is under attack
Some worthless excuse for a subhuman is sending out email claiming to be from various fake addresses at caseysmith.net. Forging the return address on email is just as easy as writing a fake return address on an old-fashioned envelope, and some spammer has chosen caseysmith.net as its victim. I really, really wish I could shut them down--I get tens of thousands of bounced messages daily (the spammer sends a lot of mail to non-existent addresses and to full accounts). I have no idea why they picked my site for the fake return addresses.
I don't send spam, and I hate the scum who sends spam in my name.
The spam seems to be advertising penny stocks and often starts something like this:
Yap Internationa|, Inc.(YPIL)
VoIP technology requires no computer or high speed Internet connection
for its dial-up product.
Current Price: $.145
Watch This Stock Monday Some of These Litt|e VOIP Stocks Have Been
Rea|ly Moving Late|y.
I've done my best to figure out where they're coming from, but the "Received: " headers (the only headers which can't be faked) all come from different IP addresses. It appears that happless internet surfers have viruses on their computers which the spammer uses to send out spam from their computers with my domain in the return address.
Summary: Some creep has access to various computers all over the world via viruses. The loser uses these computers to send spam with fake return addresses claiming to be from caseysmith.net. The email never goes through caseysmith.net's server, so there's nothing I can do about it. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing all of us.
I'm very sorry if you've been receiving spam claiming to be sent by me. I assure you, I'm not involved, nor is my webserver. The jerks sending this stuff are hurting us all. If anyone knows something that can be done, please let me know.
